OUR SCHOOL CURRICULUM:

Thompson Academy uses a blend of play-based curriculum our classrooms through the use of centers and workspaces each day and believes in growing and developing the whole-child.  We integrate curriculum with “center” activities to ensure proper growth in both the areas of academics and development.  Center activities are important in developing emotional and social aspects of each child, fine motor skills, and scaffolding a love of math and science through play.  Centers help children learn to make choices – which helps them to learn to make decisions and ensures that they will participate in activities that interest them.  It is our goal that in every lesson prepared, we offer something for the head, something for the hands and something for the heart. Our teachers create weekly lesson plans based off monthly thematic units.  Thompson Academy also offers enrichment programs as part of their curriculum which includes monthly music classes, physical education classes such as yoga, dance, and exercise with local partnerships in the community, holiday parties, and career days. Thompson Academy is proud to offer a school year program from August through May, and also offers a summer program for the months of June and July for infants up to VPK graduates.

ABOUT OUR VPK PROGRAM:

Thompson Academy is proud to partner with the Early Learning Coalition and have a voluntary prekindergarten (VPK) program. VPK is designed to prepare four-year-old children for kindergarten and build the foundation for their educational success. Thompson Academy offers a school year VPK program of 540 instructional hours throughout the year which is 3 hours of instruction a day. Our VPK classrooms uses a blend of our thematic units, Creative Curriculum, Nemours literacy curriculum, Spanish and ASL integration, and monthly enrichment classes to prepare students for their journey into elementary school.
